AUTHOR'S NOTE
What follows is, unfortunately, a work of fiction and satire.
While there are elements of truth in this book—all the statistics presented are factual, many economists do believe the economy is headed for the toilet, and the United States Congress has by most accounts become increasingly corrupt and ineffective—the events at the center of the story and the main character, Noa Kalakaua, are fictional.
Though a number of recognizable people and publications appear in this book, their involvement in the events documented in this story is completely fictional. None of the media accounts that appear here were actually published elsewhere (with the exception of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s February 28, 2008 New York Times op-ed piece, which was reprinted with permission from the Times). Everything else was written by me.
It’s fiction. All of it.
Imagine, though, just imagine, if it were true.
