INTRODUCTION
What follows is a collection of material printed and broadcast by various news outlets about the 2008 United States presidential election, which is already being hailed as a major turning point in American history.
Over the last 1,278 days, more than 11 billion words were printed or aired in 138 languages on this subject. A pittance of them—approximately 75,000—have been gathered here. In assembling this book the editors were faced with many choices. In making selections we didn’t look for the most complete or most detailed stories, but rather for those stories that most likely shaped public opinion during this remarkable time.
This is nowhere near a complete collection, but rather a highly condensed account of the one of the most important and improbable historical events of our lives, one whose repercussions will likely be felt for decades, and possibly centuries.
